Gilmore Girls: Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about!

As usual, beware upcoming spoilers.

Finally, stuff happened! A few observations.

1) Marty is my kind of hot. I always thought Rory should have picked Marty over Logan.
2) Christopher is my kind of hot too. I saw an old episode when he had longer hair, and his buzz cut is way better.
3) But I still think it should be Luke and Lorelai.
4) Lorelai was hilarious about the jetlag, cheeseburgers, and being so hungry.
5) I love the idea of walking around Paris in the middle of the night.
6) “Welcome home, Mrs. Hayden.” Lorelai futzing with her wedding band. GACK!
7) Zach was so cute to Lane. Maybe I’m a sucker. Can’t help it.

On another note, I’m sooo behind for NaNoWriMo. Like 2,000 words behind. Monday I did zero writing, Tuesday I did a tiny bit, having rewritten a scene three times, and today I did a tiny bit since I was at an all-day training session, which runs tomorrow as well. I’ll try to do some tonight.

There’s always the weekend. Five thousand words a day? Sure, why not.

ANTM & other stuff

HEREBE ANTM SPOILERS.

I’m so glad they kicked Anchal off. I liked her in the beginning but now think she’s a whiner. “Wah, I’m fat. Wah, I used to run.” So run! And stop eating ice cream! I run my butt off and try not to eat ice cream and I’m no model.

Hate Melrose, love the twins. I also like CariDee and really wish they hadn’t kicked off Brooke last week.

Sometimes I feel like Tyra’s critiques are BS. Like that stuff about worrying that CariDee didn’t listen to Jay or the instructors in that simulated skydiving thing. Seemed as though she just needed something negative to say and was grasping at straws.

I liked Gabrielle Reece and her feedback for the girls. But she’s definitely a poster woman for SPF protection.

~ ~ ~

Looking forward to upcoming plans.

Friday: Y. and I are going to our coworker’s concert. She’s the opera singer.
This weekend: Nothing exciting. Laundry and NaNoWriMo at the ‘rents’.
Monday: Y.’s comedy gig

Next weekend: Canstruction and the Race to Deliver
11/21 thru 11/23: ES crashing with me. I’d like to see the inflating of the Thanksgiving parade balloons Wednesday night. We may also go to the actual parade on Thursday.
Thanksgiving weekend: ‘rents’

12/1: Volunteer at the Small Press Center’s Book Fair
12/2: RoadRunners 4-mile holiday run
12/3: Volunteer at Book Fair

12/6-12/12: L.A. Woohoo! I’ll see my bro, my grandmother, my mom (who will be there at the same time), and my cousin, who’ll pop her first kid around Christmas.

12/16: Possibly see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Yes, you read that right. But it’s more for the group outing experience with my aunt, mom, and cousins.

Okay, that’s enough OCD planning.

Gilmore Girls: Why hast thou forsaken me?

First things first. I still love the Gilmore Girls, and will always love the Gilmore Girls, just the way I’ll always love Buffy, in spite of that boring and disappointing last season.

But how come nothing is happening? Where’s the tension, the drama? Will Lorelai and Christopher really end up together? My biggest fear is that this is actually the last season and that they will.

It’s nice that they seem in love and are going to Paris. Too nice, if you ask me. I keep waiting for something bad to happen. Wanting it actually.

What am I talking about? It’s not nice they seem in love. I want Luke and Lorelai together! They’re supposed to be together. Their names alliterate and everything.

I’m glad that Luke and April are getting along so well. It’s sweet – and borderline sickening. But just borderline. And thank GOD Luke’s date turned out badly. We needed some negativity to balance out the Stars Hollow universe.

And hello, nice bod, Luke. He needs a better haircut – that longish do just emphasizes the fact that he’s balding – but that relatively toned tummy was a nice surprise.

As for Heroes, I wasn’t able to stay up and watch it. Can you believe it? By 9 I was ready to crawl into bed, like yesterday. I *have* been very good about getting up at 5 these mornings to run before work so that’s probably why I’m pooping out so early.

Quickie

One quick post before I’m off to Boston for the weekend.

A quiet week overall. Lots of TV, I’m afraid, but there’s something good on every night! Caught up with Project Runway yesterday. Won’t give anything away to anyone who hasn’t seen it yet. Can’t believe Jaeda made it through another round on Model. Almost cried during Pam and Jim’s conversation on The Office. Just attack each other already!

Did a morning workout every day this week – yippee! Skin’s looking a little better. Perhaps hormonal, perhaps these free samples of expensive gook.

Starting to read I Know This Much Is True. Not bad so far, but the voice is like watered down Stephen King. I have the hard cover for some reason and it weighs about a million pounds. But a 3+ hour train ride is the perfect opportunity to read a lot and write a little.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Obsessed with Heroes

I’m addicted to that new show Heroes. I love that the characters are just learning about their superpowers, not quite sure what they’re capable of, as well as the mystery around why they suddenly have these abilities, who the bad guy is, and the coming of the apacolypse.

Another small thing I enjoy is that when Hiro (yes, not too original but I still buy it) and his friend speak Japanese, the subtitles are more like comic book speech bubbles rather than traditional subtitles. Love it!

I’m so bummed that I missed this week’s episode, though apparently you can watch it online. Should I close my door and pretend I have a meeting or conference call, and instead watch TV? So tempting. . .

S. likes the show too, and he told me that Peter’s power is actually not flight but the ability to mimic others’ powers. That got me thinking: from the glimpses we’ve seen of the bad guy, he seems to have all the abilities of the collective heroes. In last week’s episode, he somehow knew where that little girl was (like the psychic cop), he survived getting shot (like the cheerleader), and he seemed to fly away (like Peter’s brother).

Perhaps Peter will turn evil and is actually the bad guy who has traveled back in time, like Hiro? “I didn’t recognize you without your scar,” he told Peter on the frozen subway. Hmm. . .

S. and I were joking that it was amazing that Hiro had spent enough time in the future to 1) learn English perfectly, 2) get a makeover, and 3) become a ninja, and yet not age a bit.

I missed the show because I was at a PEN American Center literary reading honoring the winners of the Beyond Marigns awards, which goes to outstanding writers of color. It was pretty good, though one guy gave answers that absolutely no sense. Another, Andrew Lam, gave pithy, well-thought out responses. I’m interested now in reading his memoir, Perfume Dreams: Reflections on the Vietnamese Diaspora. Another book to the every-growing list.

I’ve been very good this week about getting up early and hitting the gym before work. (Four miles on Monday, 4 on Tuesday, elliptical today.) I’ve also signed up for two RoadRunners races to qualify for next year’s marathon, the Race to Deliver, 4 miles, on 11/19, and a holiday 4 miler on 12/2. But I forgot that I have to meet my mom at Penn Station at some point during the day. I hope it’s in the afternoon.

Boy-Less Weekend

I’m in much better shape this week than I was last week. I had dinner with SB on Tuesday and was telling her how it’s like night and day.

But, let’s face it, having no date for the weekend is going to take some getting used to. I have the whole cleaning thing to do, as well as perhaps a trip to Chinatown and some fall shopping (it’s cold out today, brrr! and me with no jacket). And a couple of runs. This is how this week went so far:

Sunday: 4 miles
Monday: 4 miles
Tuesday: rest
Wednesday: 40 minutes on the elliptical trainer
Thursday: 5 miles (woohoo!)
Friday: hopefully a run after work

I wanted to go to the gym this afternoon, but a 2 to 3 meeting ran till 3:30 and the gym closes at 4:30. Not enough time for me.

I sort of feel like starting to write again. Blogging here has helped keep the writing muscles limber.

Last night YP had a stand-up gig in Williamsburg. Such a different population. Hipsters and whatnot. While on the inside I feel out of place, like I’m too old, on the surface I think I fit in more there than where I live.

I rarely get a second glance when I hang out around my area. A different experience in the bar in the BK, though some may argue Williamsburg is not truly BK. Either way, a boost for my self-esteem.

Was able to catch this week’s Project Runway yesterday. Like a sap, I actually got a tear when they found out all four were going to Olympus Fashion Week. They all seem to get along well, unlike last season with Santino and the others, and the first season with the horrible Wendy Pepper.

The Gilmore Girls: Oh, Lorelai

I’m not going to judge. It seems much too complicated for that. I mean, she did wait and wait for Luke, trying to be “good” and not get involved with April, which doesn’t make any sense. As the shrink said in last season’s finale episode, “Only you can make you wait.”

And that feeling that he wouldn’t fight for her must have been devastating. And if she hadn’t gone to Christopher, well then there’d be no drama, would there. There’d be no show.

I can’t get my head around that it’s still summer in Stars Hollow. I know by the magic of television that before we know it, we’ll be on the same time continuum, but for now it irks me.

Also, is it me or does Lorelai look heavier? I don’t mean she looks fat. Before she was model-thin and now she looks more like a normal person. I wonder if the actress is pregnant and they’ll work that into the storyline. D’oh! Christopher’s or Luke’s?

The racquetball scene was pretty hilarious. And more evidence that I’m a complete doork: when Kirk crashed into Luke’s diner, I totally gasped, like it really happened.
